Does it matter if stamps upside down?

Originally Answered: Can you put a stamp upside down? Yes. So long as it is the correct amount of postage, and placed in the proper location (upper right-hand corner), the machines that cancel the stamps and sort the mail don't care which way it's oriented.

What does it mean when you put a postage stamp upside down?

If the stamp isn't in the upper-right corner, it may get diverted to a pair of human eyes to look for postage elsewhere on the envelope. An upside-down stamp might mean the sender loves the recipient, while a sideways stamp could have indicated they were being relegated to the friend zone.

Is it OK to put stamp upside down?

What happens if you address an envelope upside down?

You can place the delivery address on the front or the back of the tailpiece, but it must be on the same side as the postage. The address may be parallel or perpendicular to the top edge, but not upside-down as read in relation to the top edge. A perpendicular address can face to the left or the right.

Why does the stamp go on the right?

Once machines came into the picture, the postal service needed to establish a set of rules and decided to have the stamp placed in the top-right corner because it correlated with the mail handlers' dominant, right hand. If the stamp was instead sideways, this would suggest that the sender was not interested.

Do stamps have to go in upper right?

Stamps must be affixed firmly in the upper right corner of the address side of the mail cover. Any stamp partly concealed by an overlapping stamp may not be counted as postage.

What happens if you put stamp on left side?

Originally Answered: I accidentally put the stamp on the left side of envelope instead of right. As long as the correct valued stamp is on the envelope, the letter or package will be delivered, though it may take a couple extra days to get there.

Does it matter if you put a stamp on the wrong side?

All this requires the stamp in the proper location. Putting the stamp in the wrong corner brings this process to a screeching halt and detours your letter into the manual cases. Postage Stamp should always be placed in the top right corner of the envelope with the return address on the left side of the envelope.
