Click where you want to add a footnote. Click References > Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text. Tip: To return to your place in your document, double-click the footnote mark.
Enter footnote texts in note area. Next put insertion pointer inside text box at the place where the footnote reference actually goes and click References tab. Click Cross-reference command to open the same name dialog box. There choose Footnote from the drop-down menu of Reference type.

Open the document and select the References tab. Click the Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box launcher (it appears as a small square in the bottom-right corner of the tab).
You have to change the indentation for the Footnote Text paragraph style. To do that, you can display the Apply Styles pane by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S, type in Footnote Text and then click the Modify button. You'll find the settings for indentation by clicking the Format drop down and then choosing the Paragraph option.
Each superscript then refers to a numbered citation in the footnotes or endnotes. Footnotes/endnotes: The first time the in-text reference is cited you must include, author's first name, author's last name, title, place of publication, publisher name, year and referenced pages. e.g.
Using footnotes for citations This means that if you want to cite a source, you add a superscript number at the end of the sentence that includes the information from this source. This number corresponds to a footnote or endnote citation, where you include information such as the author, title of work, date, etc.
