Can a person have 2 DOT numbers?

If you operate under two separate business entities, then you will likely need 2 dot numbers. If you operate under a single name and authority, then you should be able to use the same number.

Can two trucks have the same DOT number?

FMCSA issues US DOT numbers to companies rather than individual trucks, so all the trucks in a company's fleet carry the same US DOT number. Thirty-one states require all businesses to have US DOT numbers if they license commercial motor vehicles, whether the companies have interstate operations.

Is a DOT number transferable?

Who needs a DOT number?

In general, a US DOT Number is required if you are operating in interstate commerce and meet the following criteria: You have vehicles that are over 10,000 lbs. (OVER, GCR, AVW or GCB) You transport between 9 and 15 passengers (including the driver) for compensation, whether direct or indirect.
