The best thing to do is check the Elasticsearch error logs for clues about why it is failing. Open two terminal sessions to your server, so you can view the Elasticsearch logs while trying to start the service. In the first terminal session, we'll look at the logs: tail -f /var/log/Elasticsearch/Elasticsearch.
The location of the logs differs based on the installation type: On Docker, Elasticsearch writes most logs to the console and stores the remainder in Elasticsearch/logs/. The tarball installation also uses Elasticsearch/logs/. On the RPM and Debian installations, Elasticsearch writes logs to /var/log/Elasticsearch/.
According to the documentation the data is stored in a folder called “data” in the elastic search root directory. Elastic search is storing data under the folder 'Data' as mentioned above answers.
Step 1: create an index pattern. Open Diana at Diana.example.com. Select the Management section in the left pane menu, then Index Patterns. Step 2: view the logs. Navigate to the Discover section in the left pane menu.
To send logs to Semtex Logs (or your own Elasticsearch cluster) via HTTP, you can use the Elasticsearch output. You'll need to specify that you want the HTTP protocol, the host and port of an Elasticsearch server. For Semtex Logs, those would be logsene-receiver.sematext.com and port 443.
