The trigger for puberty in both boys and girls is the production of 'gonadotrophin releasing hormone' (GRH) from a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. This hormone stimulates the pituitary gland to release two hormones, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH).
The physical changes of puberty for a boy usually start with enlargement of the testicles and sprouting of pubic hair, followed by a growth spurt between ages 10 and 16 on average 1 to 2 years later than when girls start. His arms, legs, hand, and feet also grow faster than the rest of his body.
Boys usually hit puberty between 11 and 16. Remember that changes will happen over time. Everyone's body is different, so some people develop very quickly and others more slowly. Your first signs of puberty may also be different from your friends'.
For girls, one of the first signs of puberty usually is their breasts starting to grow. Getting your period (menstruation) usually happens later, around two years after breast growth starts. In between, you'll probably start to see more hair in places like under your arms and in your pubic area.

Starting as early as age 7 or 8, your body begins to produce the hormones that are responsible for the changes of puberty. Teenage hormones are the chemicals that cause the physical growth and sexual development that will carry you through your teens and into adulthood.
So that's what's really happening during puberty it's all these new chemicals moving around inside your body, turning you from a teen into an adult with adult levels of hormones. Puberty usually starts some time between age 7 and 13 in girls and 9 and 15 in guys.
Irregular or heavy periods, fatigue, weight gain, facial hair and extreme moodiness are all common symptoms of teen hormone imbalance. But there are other less common signs, as well, that can occur in various combinations depending on a teen's specific hormonal issues: Increased sensitivity to cold or heat.
