In grad school, much of my reading comes from pdf files my professors post. Prior to PDFfiller, I would print out hundreds of papers in order to annotate. Now, I can annotate while conserving resources and I have access to the files no matter where or what device I use.

Unlike ordinary property tax, you can't deduct real estate transfer tax from your income tax return, according to the Internal Revenue Service. What you can do, however, is included them in what's called the cost basis of the property, essentially meaning the amount you paid to acquire it.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act limits the amount of property taxes you can deduct. For 2019, the IRS says you can deduct up to $10,000 ($5,000 if you're married filing separately) of the following costs: Property taxes, including real estate taxes and personal property taxes.
You can deduct annual real estate taxes based on the assessed value of your property by your city or state. Beginning in 2018, the total amount of state and local taxes, including property taxes, that you can deduct is limited to $10,000 per year.
When filing your 2019 tax return in 2020, for example, you can only deduct the property taxes you paid on or between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019. If you find yourself short on funds to pay your property taxes at the end of the year, you can always use a credit card and make the payment online.
The Mortgage Interest Deduction allows homeowners to reduce their taxable income by the amount of interest paid on a qualified residence loan. The law regarding the Mortgage Interest Deduction has been revised by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and the changes will take effect beginning with returns filed in 2019.
Unfortunately, transfer taxes are not tax-deductible. Transfer taxes are fees imposed to legally transfer a real estate title, and they vary by state. Often, the seller will pay the tax. However, the tax is not deductible for either the buyer or the seller.
When you sell a personal residence, closing costs, such as attorney and realtor fees, are not tax-deductible. Just as when you are a purchaser, most closing costs are not tax write-offs. On the plus side, you may add these expenses to the cost basis of your home, which minimizes any capital gains tax requirements.
Home improvements and repairs But there's a catch, and it all boils down to timing. If you needed to make home improvements in order to sell your home, you can deduct those expenses as selling costs as long as they were made within 90 days of the closing, says Zimmerman.
