How do I keep my phone number active?

How do I keep my existing phone number?
To keep your mobile number and transfer it to another network, you need to request what's called a Porting Authorization Code (PAC) from your old provider and then let your new provider know the code. They will then schedule the switch.
Can you keep the same phone number with a new SIM card?
Yes, you can. If you move from one network to another then you need to ask your old network for a PAC code, and give it to your new network within 30 days. Your new network will port your mobile number over to your new SIM.
Can I get my old phone number back?
Call your phone service provider within 30 days of canceling your phone number or it being disconnected. Although phone numbers can typically be recycled as soon as they are released, they are rarely taken in less than 30 days.
How do I transfer my phone number to a new carrier?
Do not cancel your service with your current carrier before contacting your new provider. Once you have decided which carrier, plan and cell phone you want to go for, contact your new provider. If you want to keep your device, you may also need to provide your phone's ESN/IMEI number.
Why can't I transfer my phone number?
Sometimes, a number simply can't get ported. According to the FCC, If you are moving to a new geographic area, you may not be able to keep your current phone number when changing providers. Also, some rural wire line service providers may obtain waivers for the porting requirement from state authorities.
Can you temporarily change your cell phone number?
To get a temporary new number for an unlocked cell phone, purchases a temporary use SIM card. Open up your phone and replace your current SIM card with the new one, and send a text to the number indicated on your card to activate it.
How do you disguise your cell phone number?
Enter *67. Enter the number you wish to call (including area code). Tap Call. The words “Private,” “Anonymous,” or some other indicator will appear on the recipient's phone instead of your mobile number.
