For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Higher DPI means higher resolution. Resolution is not size, but it's often confused with it because higher resolution images are often bigger, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. Print: 300dpi is standard, sometimes 150 is acceptable but never lower, you may go higher for some situations.
DPI stands for Dots per inch. It indicates the number of dots the printer prints per inch. Higher The DPI, the more toner is used and also excellent quality printouts are printed. So, 1200 DPI consumes more toner than 600 DPI.
Higher resolution means more detail. Higher DPI means higher resolution. Resolution is not size, but it's often confused with it because higher resolution images are often bigger, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case.
Faster 1200: This setting provides 1200 dpi effective output quality (600 × 600 × 2 dpi with HP Resolution Enhancement technology [RET]). 600 dpi: This setting provides 600 × 600 dpi output with Resolution Enhancement technology (RET) for improved text. Economize (Save Toner): Text is printed using less toner.
The quick answer is that higher resolutions lead to better scans for reproducing your images. 600 DPI scans produce much larger files, but help ensure every detail in your print is recorded in digital form. If you want files that are easier to work with, 300 DPI scans would be a better choice.
The higher the DPI, the finer the print. If laser printer prints with 300 dpi, it will give you a good print for normal text. Nowadays, most laser printers in the market offer the standard print mode at least 600 dpi, some color laser printer is able to print up to 3600 dpi.
Since a 600 dpi printer can print 600 dots both horizontally and vertically per inch, it actually prints 360,000 (600 × 600) dots per square inch. Also, since most monitors have a native resolution of 72 or 96 pixels per inch, they cannot display a 300 dpi image in actual size.
A higher dpi is not significant for normal texts or pictures of standard size. For a 16×20 image, 300 dpi is good enough. For example, if you need pictures too small or too large, then you need high dpi. 600 dpi prints have twice the resolution than 300 dpi and are therefore sharper results.
