S. For an activity course or a course in which the instructor elects to grade students only on a satisfactory/no credit basis, the 'S' represents performance that is “satisfactory” and equivalent to letter grade of 'C-' or better. For such a course, no letter grades may be assigned for satisfactorily completed work.

The Letter Lineup Prior to that, schools usually describe progress with a scale such as D for developing, E for expanding, S for satisfactory, and N for needs improvement. The kindergarten report card can be likened to a checklist of skills crucial for early learning.

Grade Not Reported. Repeated Course Policy. Through Summer 1986 and Beginning With Fall 1993 The symbol R appears adjacent to the grade earned for each attempt when a course has been repeated. Only the last completed attempt counts toward the degree and is included in the grade-point average.
The NC (NC) and R (Repeat) grades are non-penalty grades assigned to specific college courses in Grading System I. If you received either an NC or an R grade, the bad news is that you are required to repeat the course in order to receive credit for it.
What do the E, A, and I code on my transcript mean? These codes mean the following: E = The course attempt is excluded from GPA (grade point average) calculation. A = The course attempt is included in GPA calculation. I = The course attempt is included in GPA and earned hours' calculation.
If they earn a grade of C or better, then the new grade will replace the old grade in the calculation of the overall GPA, but the F will remain on the transcript. ... Raising your GPA with the F policy will not help you get into graduate school. Admissions Committees look at the entire transcript, not just the GPA.
