Why can't I edit a calculated field in tableau?
The reason that Tableau is not allowing the field to be edited is that the field is in the data extract and not local to the workbook. To have a field that one can edit in the workbook, then create a new field and do not overwrite the extract with the new field.

In the Data pane, right-click the calculated field and select Edit.
In the Calculation Editor that opens, you can do the following: Edit the name of the calculated field. Update the formula.
