We have had a service application on line for several years. People have been printing, handwriting the answers to our application and emailing it back. I just received back my first fillable application and I love it. It is legible and all the answers appear where they are supposed to no more writing up the side of the page because of the limited space for answering.

Why do my footnotes disappear in Word?
Probably the most common reason for this is that the page margins are set to narrow to accommodate the footnotes. The other item to check is the document's footnote settings. You have to make sure that the format you're using is set to show the footnotes.
How do I find missing footnotes in Word?
Go into Draft view.
Select References.
Find the “Show footnotes” icon (unhelpfully it's not labelled!)
Scroll through the bottom pane until you find reach the “missing” reference numbers (e.g. I was missing “61”, so I went to 60 and then read on from there) u.
How do I see all footnotes in a Word document?
To begin with, click View tab.
Then choose Draft view.
Next click References tab.
And then click Show Notes option in Footnotes group.
Now there shall be a note pane at the bottom of the screen whose size you can adjust. Make sure you select All Footnotes.

Keeping the start of a footnote on the same page as its reference. ... If you have a footnote reference in the very last line of a page, there will not be room for an extra footnote, and both reference and note will have to be carried to the next page.
Why is my footnote appearing on the next page?
Because the text where the footnote occurs is so far down on the page that if Word made room at the bottom for the footnote text, it would force the paragraph with the footnote to the next page. To fix this, you have to move your text around so the footnote occurs further up on the page, or on the next page.
