My experience Pryor to contact customer support via online chat wasn't a pleasant experience. However my representative went over and beyond in my opinion to resolve the issue for me. Add an equation with LaTeX or Math ML in the toolbar, then choose Equation. You can also choose Insert > Equation (from the Insert menu at the top of your screen). If you have Datatype installed, a dialog appears, asking whether to use Pages to create the equation. Click Use Pages.
Pages does not have an equation editor by default. Apple does say, however, that if you have Datatype 6 installed, you can use that from within Pages, and equations are then treated as graphics. One option is to install a Latex distribution like Mac Tex and then use a small software called Latex It.
You can also choose Insert > Equation (from the Insert menu at the top of your screen). If you have Datatype installed, a dialog appears, asking whether to use Pages to create the equation. Click Use Pages. Enter an equation in the field using LaTeX commands or Math ML elements.
Do one of the following: Tap, tap. Enter a LaTeX or Math ML equation using the keyboard and the math symbols above the keyboard. Tap Insert.
Click in the toolbar, then in the Basic category, click a line. Options include a straight line with or without endpoints, or a line with editing points to create a curved line. Click to select an existing line on a page.
Go to Insert — Symbol. Scroll down until you see Symbol. Look for the Division sign. Click on the Division symbol. The Division symbol will now appear on the page.
On the Mac, there are a few keyboard shortcuts by pressing and holding the Option/Alt key () whilst pressing another character on the keyboard. Or a combination of the Option/Alt key and the Shift key (). For example, the division symbol (÷) is and /.
