Can doctors working in the same practice sign orders for each other? One doctor has ordered, but another signs the order. CMS Transmittal 327 CR 6698, states physicians cannot sign for the other physicians.
A physician MAY bill incident to another physician's services as long as they meet the incident to regulations found in 42 CFR Ch IV § 410.26.
Physician orders are generally effective when they are given, subject to appropriate documentation. Verbal orders are effective when provided verbally, but must be properly recorded in the medical records and authenticated or signed by the ordering physician.
