For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Signature Debit Transactions The alternative to using your PIN when you swipe your debit card is signing for your purchase. With signature transactions, the merchant always has to consider the cost. You, however, appear to benefit with signature debit transactions.
Signatures indicate that the card is active. Many credit card companies use signatures on the back of cards as a way of ensuring that cardholders agree to the company's terms of the agreement. A signature on the card is a sign that the card is valid and useable.

First off a quick clarification, signature debit is when a customer's debit card is accepted just like a credit card without having the customer enter their PIN. Conversely, a PIN debit transaction is when the debit card is accepted and the customer enters their PIN as they would do at an ATM.
A signature-based debit card transaction is one that is processed offline. Your signature is required at the point of sale when you make your purchase. A signature-based debit card transaction has pros and cons when compared to other methods of purchasing.
Visa Signature is a tier of credit card that includes perks above and beyond those normally offered to Visa cardholders. The qualifications needed to obtain a Visa Signature card vary depending on the financial institution that issues the card.
Visa Signature benefits include rental car insurance, roadside dispatch, extended warranties and special hotel discounts. It's possible for a Visa Signature card to have these benefits, but it's 100% up to the issuer. All three perks are standard with Visa Infinite cards. Information is accurate as of Jan 10, 2019.
Visa Infinite is a type of Visa credit card that is reserved for the most premium credit cards. It should be noted that while Visa Signature comes with a set of benefits, card issuers can control which features are available to cardholders.
Signatures are required to prevent fraud. Your signature on a credit card receipt authorizes the payment; it follows that if you don't sign, you can later claim that you didn't authorize the charge. If you win your claim, the bank that issued the credit card is liable for the payment.
The point of signing a receipt is to try and prevent fraud. For example, if they do not have a signed receipt and someone were to dispute the charge then the place where the charge was made may be penalized if they do not have proof that it was in fact you yourself who used said card.
A signature on the card is a sign that the card is valid and useable. Merchants may refuse unsigned cards for payment. The signature indicates that the card is valid and active.
Signature Debit Transactions The alternative to using your PIN when you swipe your debit card is signing for your purchase. With signature transactions, the merchant always has to consider the cost. You, however, appear to benefit with signature debit transactions.
This is because many banks require you to make signature transactions if you want to earn rewards. The reason that debit rewards programs prefer signature transactions is relatively clear when you realize how much money can be made payment processors when you sign for your debit card purchases.
(The rules of each network are slightly different: Visa doesn't require signatures in North America, but only for merchants with payment systems that read chip cards; Mastercard is ditching signatures, but only in the US and Canada.)
Major credit card companies are getting rid of the signature requirement for credit card transactions. American Express, Discover and Mastercard will no longer require merchants to collect a signature on April 13. Visa will do away with the signature requirement starting April 14.
