Protecting documents for feedback Before you send a Microsoft Word document to another person for their comments, you can make use of a feature called Document protection. Document Protection therefore allows you to ask your reviewers to make comments directly in the Microsoft Word document you send them.
Open the Word (Excel or PowerPoint) document. Click on File. Click on Info. On the right side, click the Protect document menu. Select to Encrypt with Password option. Type a password to protect the document. Click the OK button. Retype the password.
Open the form that you want to lock or protect. Click Home > Select > Select All, or press CTRL+A. Click Developer > Restrict Editing. After selecting restrictions, click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
Adding protection to a Word document serves as a safeguard, preventing unauthorized access or changes to the document. You might require a password to open the file, for example, or place restrictions on editing all or only certain parts of the document.
Highlight the parts of your Word document you want to lock. To select different parts of your document, hold down the “Ctrl” key as you highlight the next area you want to lock.
To turn off the protection, click on Review tab and click on the icon for Restrict Editing. Click on the Stop Protection button at the bottom of the Restrict Editing pane. Type the password and click OK. Then uncheck the options for Formatting and Editing restrictions that appear on the top right.

On the File tab, click the Protect Document button and select the Restrict Editing option. The Restrict Formatting and Editing pane displays. To apply the chosen to edit restrictions, click the Yes, Start Enforcing Protection button.
