Vinyl records need to be stored in an upright position to ensure they stay in good condition. Records that have been stored at a slant for an extended period of time can warp because of the uneven pressure that has been placed on them. This is why records are often kept in crates that position them upright.
Horizontal vinyl record storage means records are pressed atop each other which means warped grooves. For long-lasting fruitiness, stand records up completely vertical (no leaning) while storing them. Do Give Em Some Room. Cramming records next to each other is also a no-no.
Do NOT stack vinyl records One way is by stacking them. This is one sure fire way to cause warping, possible cracking of the vinyl record because of the weight, and will inevitably produce scuff marks and ring wear on the album cover marring the artwork. Records must always be stored upright like books on a shelf.
The ideal temperature to store your records is roughly between 65 °F (18°C) and 70°F (21°C). Although that is the ideal temperature, you shouldn't worry about staying exactly between those temperatures. A good rule of thumb is if you feel comfortable in the room, your vinyl should be as well.
