The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (ETA) is a federal law that protects consumers when they transfer funds electronically. Including the use of debit cards, automated teller machines (ATMs), and automatic withdrawals from a bank account.
1. Fed wire and ACH. If a financial institution makes a fund transfer to a consumer's account after receiving funds through Fed wire or a similar network, the transfer by ACH is covered by the regulation even though the Fed wire or network transfer is exempt.
