How do I unlock a document for editing?
On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, and then click Restrict Formatting and Editing. In the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane, click Stop Protection.
Why is restricted editing greyed out?
Re: Restrict Editing in Office 2013 is grayed out Usually the reason that it doesn't work is that another type of protection is already in place on the document. Changing the status of the document will make the option available again.
Why can't I restrict editing in Word 2016?
Make sure the Restrict Editing panel is open. If you can't see it, switch to the Review tab on the ribbon and click Restrict Editing in the Protect section of the ribbon. Click Stop Protection at the bottom of the Restrict Editing pane. If you set a password, you'll need to enter it now to stop protection.
Why is restricted editing greyed out in Word?
To disable Design Mode, click on the “Developer” tab and then click the “Design Mode” button in the Controls group. The Design Mode button appears with a blue background when it's enabled. Once you've disabled Design Mode, the Restrict Editing button in the Protect group will no longer be grayed out.
