Tenant Protection Vouchers (TVs) are provided to protect HUD-assisted families from hardship as the result of a variety of actions that occur in HUD's Public Housing (Low-Rent), the Multifamily Housing portfolios, and Moderate Rehabilitation properties.
HUD Proposes Enhanced Voucher Rules. Enhanced Vouchers are a form of Tenant Protection Vouchers that are provided to tenants living in properties with private, project-based assistance when an eligibility event, as defined in Section 8(t)(2) of the Housing Act of 1937, takes place.
The two biggest differences between project-based housing and tenant-based vouchers are: If you get a project-based unit, you will be offered affordable housing in a specific apartment and won't get to choose the apartment you rent.
Project Based Section 8 housing is a government-funded program that provides rental housing to low-income households in privately owned and managed rental units. The subsidy stays with the building. When you move out, you no longer have the rental assistance.
The project-based voucher (PBA) program is one part of the CV program. It helps pay for rent in privately owned rental housing, but only in specific privately owned buildings or units. That means that if you get a project-based voucher, you don't get to choose the unit you live in.
Project-Based Rental Assistance. Project-based rental assistance provides critical affordable housing stock to low-income families across the country. This type of rental assistance allows tenants to live in an affordable unit and pay rent based upon their income.
Project-based rental assistance differs from tenant-based rental assistance, which low-income families can use to rent any private apartment that meets program guidelines. The main form of tenant-based rental assistance is the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Project-based vouchers are attached to a specific unit whose landlord contracts with a housing agency to rent the unit to low-income families. Unlike old-style project-based rental assistance, PVS do not require families to live in a particular location in order to receive help paying the rent.
