Can a company force you to change your contract hours?
If your contract specifies particular hours of work then these arrangements can normally only be changed with your agreement. If your employer changes your contract without your agreement, or without giving the correct notice, this is called a breach of contract and may mean you could make a legal claim against them.
Can my employer change my terms and conditions?
A contract of employment is a legal agreement between the employer and the employee. Its terms cannot lawfully be changed by the employer without agreement from the employee (either individually or through a recognized trade union). Your employer should not breach equality laws when changing contract terms.
Can an employer unilaterally change terms of employment?
Under the common law, employers may not unilaterally amend the terms of a contract of employment with an employee. Employers sometimes bring about these unilateral changes with the intention to force or upset the employee to such an extent that he resigns.
Can an employer change your hours of work?
If your contract limits your working hours/days (for example from 9am to 5pm), your employer can request that you change these hours, but cannot force you to do so. As explained above however, if your contract states that you can work these times, your employer may rota you to do so and require you to work these times.
Can an employer make you do something not in your job description?
So, the short answer is, yes, your employer may assign you tasks not specifically outlined in your job description. Unless you work under a collective bargaining agreement or contract, your employer can legally change your duties. During this time, work tasks sometimes are neglected or delegated to others.
Can an employer change your payday?
Federal Law The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLEA) does not prohibit employers from changing paydays. But the law states that wages must be paid when due, which generally means the next regularly scheduled payday. Beyond this provision, the FLEA does not place requirements on how frequently wages are paid.
Can I just work my contracted hours?
You cannot be forced to work over the number of hours in your contract and may legally refuse to do so. If you do not work the full number of hours stated in your contract (without good reason such as illness/bereavement etc) then your employer may discipline you.
Do I have to work more hours than my contract?
Your employer can't force you to do more hours than your contract says you do, but it can, with consultation and notice, change your contract — you can either accept the change to contract, or leave (usually).
