How Many Words are in a 30-second radio commercial? There are several ways to answer this. According to the National Center for Voice and Speech the average rate of speech for English speakers is 150 words per minute. Divide that in half, and you have an answer of 75 words per 30 seconds.
Use only one idea in each sentence. The recommended length of a sentence for an audio script is around 25 words. That's just a general guideline, so don't be too rigid. Mix short sentences with slightly longer ones for variety.
