London Business School changed its MBA application for the 2021-2022 season to require just one letter of recommendation. In doing so, it joins a growing number of top business schools requesting a singular reference, including MIT Sloan, Columbia Business School, and IESE.
An MBA recommendation letter should include anecdotes about your accomplishments at work, your skills, and your character. It should highlight the qualities that make you a good candidate for the MBA program you're applying to.
A well-crafted LOR must be categorically divided into short and clear paragraphs (at least 4-5), and each paragraph should contain a unique set of information about the candidate. Most importantly, there should be a clear progression in how information flows from one paragraph to the next.
Typically, the limit ranges from 500 to 1,000 words. The best letters of recommendation include multiple and specific examples of the recommender's experiences working with the candidate, so the more detailed, the better within the confines of the school's requirements.
A letter for recommendation template begins by explaining your association with the candidate. It includes specific examples of their skills, achievements, and work ethic followed by a summary highlighting why the person is a good fit for the position or program they are applying for.
It's best to discuss traits, qualities and accomplishments that directly related to Business and Business Administration, as well as specific MBA missions and values of your program(s) that you provide them with.
The letter should be about one page in length and generally consist of three parts: opening, body, and closing. The writer should explain the relationship between himself/herself and the candidate as well as why the letter is being written.
