To graduate with a Standard Diploma for students entering the ninth grade for the first time in 2018-2019 and beyond, a student must earn at least 22 standard units of credit and five verified units of credit. Students earn standard credits by successfully completing required and elective courses.
High school diploma. A high school diploma is a North American academic school-leaving qualification awarded upon high school graduation. The high school diploma is typically studied for over the course of three to four years, from grade 9 to grade 12.
Passing the General Educational Development (GED) tests can result in a credential that's commonly considered equivalent to a high school diploma. However, the requirements are very different, and the results may be too.
A standard diploma type refers to the minimum requirements necessary to earn a diploma in a state. States may offer additional diploma types or endorsements. For example, a state may require two units from a list that includes foreign language, fine arts, performing arts, and career and technical education.
Some states have different high school graduation requirements and the most common required GPA is a 2.0. Bottom line is, if you can get at least a D in each class, then a 1.0 GPA would be considered passing in some schools, and you would be able to graduate.
An advanced diploma includes a combination of standard subject areas and electives. Commonly, you'll need to complete 26 credits or standard units in specific content areas. Some courses like English, math, science and history include a comprehensive exam to demonstrate academic proficiency.
In order to earn the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, students must pass the following Regents exams with a score of 65 or better: Comprehensive English. Mathematics (all three). Global History. US History. Science (one physical and one life science). And a language other than English.
In terms of diplomas, two options are presented: standard and advanced. The difference between an advanced diploma and a standard diploma lies in the class requirements. Students who choose to obtain an advanced diploma must take four years of math and science and three additional electives.
