If you want to highlight one word at a time, press Ctrl key while holding down Shift, and then press the left or right arrow key. If you want to highlight a whole line of text, move your cursor to the start of the line, hold the Shift key, and then press the down arrow.
Place your cursor somewhere in or next to the word you wish to select. Press Ctrl’D (Windows or Linux) or Command’D (Mac OS X) to highlight the entire word. Press Ctrl’D (Windows or Linux) or Command’D (Mac OS X) to select the next instance of the word. Repeat until you've selected the words you want to change.

Right-click in the middle of one of the bolded (in this example) text areas and click on the “Select all matching text” pop-up menu item. This will select all the separate bold text areas simultaneously. You can now copy or make whatever changes are needed to all the selected text at once.
