What do you do if someone steals your prescription?
If you need to report instances of stolen or lost prescription forms (but no fraudulent use is suspected), please contact the police, Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer (CDA) and Local Counter Fraud Specialist (CFS).
What happens if your prescription gets stolen?
If a patient presents to the Pharmacy reporting lost or stolen medication/s, the pharmacist will use professional judgment and may refill/replace the medication/s up to once annually, submitting the claim/s to the IBM and charging the co-pay/s. This will be documented in Prop harm to provide for tracking.
What do you do if you lose your prescription?
If you do lose or forget your medications in the U.S. you can ask your doctor to fax, call in, or electronically send a refill to a pharmacy at your destination. The process can be more complex if you're travelling overseas. You may need to be seen by a local doctor who can prescribe the medication for you.
Will police investigate stolen medication?
With prescription drug abuse rampant, it's easy to see why law enforcement officials might be suspicious when a person reports his or her medication stolen for a second or third time. Most police agencies do some type of check or investigation, especially when a theft of opiates or benzodiazepines is reported.
Is stealing someone's prescription illegal?
Unlawful possession of prescription drugs falls under unlawful possession of a controlled substance in California law, which is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in county jail and a fine of up to $1,000. A felony conviction carries a sentence of up to 16 months, two years or three years in county jail.
What happens if you get caught stealing from a pharmacy?
Felony grand theft carries up to three years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. Possession of a controlled substance (HS 11350) is a felony. It means possessing an illegal drug or legal drug without a prescription for personal use. Punishment is up to five years in jail, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Will doctors refill stolen prescriptions?
When your medication is stolen, it's a big problem. Most doctors will not refill narcotics prescriptions early, even if you have a police report of a theft.
Will a doctor refill a lost prescription?
Ask your doctor for a refill. You may have to pay cash for it, but this is an easy fix. This advice does not apply to controlled substances, which will be trickier and often require a visit with your doctor. Most doctors won't refill a controlled substance for a lost prescription without seeing you first.
