Right-click on the text file which you want to password protect and then click Add to archive. In the General tab, enter a name for the file, select archive format you like, and then click Set password button. Enter the password, and re-enter the password. Finally, click OK.

Locate the text file in File Explorer. You can encrypt the text file directly or put it in a new folder and then encrypt the folder. Right-click the file, select Properties and click the Advanced button. Select Encrypt Contents to Secure Data.

File encryption relies on the Encrypting File System (EFS) service, and in order to fix this problem, you need to do the following: Press Windows Key + R and enter services.
Open the Word (Excel or PowerPoint) document. Click on File. Click on Info. On the right side, click the Protect document menu. Select to Encrypt with Password option. Type a password to protect the document. Click the OK button. Retype the password.
To encrypt a document in Word 2019, switch to File tab at first. Click Protect Document in Info tab. Choose To encrypt with Password in the drop-down menu. Enter a password in the Encrypt Document window and click OK.
