How do security certificates work?
The web server sends the browser/server a copy of its SSL certificate. The browser/server checks to see whether it trusts the SSL certificate. The web server sends back a digitally signed acknowledgement to start an SSL encrypted session. Encrypted data is shared between the browser/server and the web server.

The server confirms the authenticity of the private key and then paves the way for secure communication.

It contains the public key for a digital signature and specifies the identity associated with the key, such as the name of an organization. The certificate is used to confirm that the public key belongs to the specific organization.
