Choose credit monitoring instead. To begin with, you do indeed need credit monitoring. However, Credit Karma only monitors two of the three credit reporting agencies, TransUnion and Equifax, whereas the Equifax settlement offers four years of credit monitoring with all three major agencies, including Experian as well.
The settlement, unveiled in July, essentially gave consumers two choices. They could take up to 10 years of free credit monitoring. The first four years would be with Equifax and two other credit bureaus, Experian EXP GY, -6.27% and TransUnion TRUE, -4.52%. The next six years would be with Equifax.
Initially, the FTC announced that affected consumers would receive at least four years of free monitoring from the three major credit rating agencies through Experian and up to six more years of free, one-bureau credit monitoring through Equifax.
