For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Plug your Ethernet cable into your IP fax machine. This machine uses the Internet instead of a phone line to send a fax, but otherwise works in much the same way as the original fax machine. Make sure the other end of the Ethernet cable is plugged in to a router or modem and connected to the Internet.
However, you do need to have the right hardware--as long as you have a printer that has a fax machine built into it, you can run your faxes right through a cable modem. In order to be able to use a cable modem to fax, you need to do this over the Internet and you need to have a printer that faxes.
Connect one end of the telephone cable to the line port of the printer. Connect the other end of the cable to the port labeled Phone Line 1 or Phone Port on the cable modem. Connect your analog telephone to the telephone port of the printer.
Plug an RJ-11 telephone line splitter into the telephone port on the modem, if the cable modem only contains one telephone port. Plug the fax machine's telephone cable into one of the ports on the splitter, and then plug the other end of the telephone cable into the splitter's other port.
Check your XFINITY Internet/Voice modem and make sure that it's connected to a wall outlet using its power adapter. Plug a phone cord into your XFINITY Internet/Voice modem. Connect the other end of the cord to the telephone port labeled “IN” or “LINE IN” on your fax machine. Connect your fax machine to a power outlet.
Click Start, then “All Programs.” Click “Windows Fax and Scan.” Select the Fax tab and then click “Tools.” Click “Fax Accounts.” Click “Add,” then “Connect to a Fax Server on My Network.” Enter the network address of the server into the Name field.
Fax-to-email services allow you to send a fax with a computer connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable. These services cost money since the company stores your email on its server. MaxEmail.com and eFax.com are two commercial fax services, and they allow you to receive incoming faxes as well.
Internet faxing involves sending and receiving fax documents using your internet connection. This is quite different from the original way of faxing, which required a traditional fax machine and a phone line to connect it to. Simply put, even if your recipient still uses a standard fax machine, you don't need one.
