Click anywhere in the section of your document for which you want to create a different header or footer. In Word 2010 and 2007, select the Insert tab, and then select either Header or Footer. Then, select Edit Header or Edit Footer. In earlier versions of Word, from the View menu, select Header and Footer.
First, double-click anywhere in either the header or footer region of a page to make those regions active. The header/footer region becomes active, and you'll see a new Design tab show up on your Ribbon with controls for dealing with headers and footers. On that tab, select the Different First Page option.
Click anywhere in the header or footer. Click Link To Previous in the Header and Footer tools to turn off the link. Type a new header or footer for this section. Now unlinked, it will function independently of the previous ones.
