I was sold on the ability to edit anything on the document easily with PDF filler. I have the latest copy of Nuance Power PDF Standard that I used to create an editable form and I could not figure out how to edit some of the fields on the PDF doc. (I believe the source PDF file may have been poorly designed for computer input.) Anyway, I find PDF filler very easy to use--no need to convert the document to a form--just start editing with the various tools. Neat!

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
The Scribner Log Rule, developed around 1846, is a good example of a diagram rule. It was created by drawing the cross-sections of 1-inch boards within circles representing the end view of logs. A space of 1/4 inch was left between the boards to account for saw Kerr.
To estimate the board feet from a log, measure the average diameter of the smaller part of the log in inches. Then, measure the length of the log in feet. Move the scale's marker over to where these two measurements meet. Where the two measurements intersect is the approximate board foot output.
The board-foot content of any board may be determined by multiplying the length by the width by the thickness, all expressed in inches, and dividing by 144 cubic inches. The board foot is also the most common volume measure for trees and logs to be used for lumber and veneer.
MEASURING THE DIAMETER OF A LOG Always measure the diameter of the small end of the log. Read the scale stick directly from the end of the log, not obliquely from the side. The diameter of a log is always measured inside the bark. This measurement is called diameter inside of bark or d.i.b.
Length Thickness Width = 192 1.5 3.5 = 1008 cubic inches. 1008/144 = 7 board feet.
To use the scale, first measure the average diameter of the small end of the log inside the bark (in inches). Locate that row on the scale. Next, measure the length of the log (in feet). Move over on the scale to that length column.
The Doyle rule is the most common rule used in hardwood log scaling in Tennessee. Edward Doyle developed this rule prior to 1850. This rule estimates the volume based on log length, diameter, slabs, edgings, shrinkage and production of sawdust.
Scribner-Doyle rule or scale A method of estimating the amount of lumber that can be cut from a saw-log. Also called the Doyle's, Connecticut River, Scribner's or Connecticut rule. ... The result, in board feet, is an estimate of the amount of lumber that can be cut from the log.
The Doyle scale is the standard by which hardwood lumber is bought and sold. It estimates large or medium logs very close to the actual number but underestimates in smaller logs. Because it comes in below the price, this is the scale most log buyers want to use.
Cull Any log or tree which is merchantable due to size, defect, or damage. May also be used to describe something which is generally worthless, e.g. As a choker setter, he was a cull.
