For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Writing the wrong ZIP Code with the right address usually causes the letter to be delivered about a day later than if the Opcode were correct. As long as the mailing address is correct, the letter will be delivered. First by zip code then by address. It will likely go to the Post Office of the zip code.
If your tax return has already been accepted by the IRS, it is too late to change the zip code. If your refund was being direct deposited, the wrong zip code will have no effect. If you asked for a refund to be mailed to you, there might be a delay in receiving it.
If you file your return with the wrong address, that can't really be undone. You'll need to contact the IRS directly to update your address (you can use their toll-free number: 1-800-829-1040). If your return(s) are rejected by the IRS, you can simply change your address before resending your tax return.
But if you happen to put the wrong ZIP Code, in most cases when it gets to the incorrect ZIP Code someone will look up the correct ZIP Code for you and corrected on your parcel. The only time he can get miss delivered is when the same street happens to exist in the wrong ZIP Code that you placed on the package.
You need to keep the address the IRS has on file for you current. Go to the IRS website and download IRS Form 8822, Change of Address, to update your address. Even if you're filing for a previous year, you must use your current address where you live and receive mail on your return.
To change your address with the IRS, you may complete a Form 8822, Change of Address, (For Individual, Gift, Estate, or Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Returns) (PDF) and/or a Form 8822-B, Change of Address or Responsible Party Business (PDF) and send them to the address shown on the forms.
The US Postal Service sorts mail from the bottom up. Zip, state, city, address then name. What will happen is your package will go to the zip code on the package. Also, if you know what the incorrect zip is, gets a hold of the post office of that zip and give them the relevant data. Failing that, call 1800 ASK USPS.
Because ZIP Codes are the cornerstone of the U.S. Postal Service's (USPS's) mail distribution system, USPS has long resisted changing them for any reason other than to improve the efficiency of delivery. Frustrated citizens frequently have turned to members of Congress for assistance in altering ZIP Code boundaries.
