Open Excel 2010 and click “File,” then click “New.” Select “Inventories” from the list of template types that appear. Scroll down through the list of inventory templates until you find one that will work for your business. Click “Download” when you have found the template that is right for you.

Open the Excel spreadsheet with the barcode data (e.g. a list with article numbers) or create your own list. Open the Barcode Panel. Mark the cells with the barcode data. Select the barcode type (e.g. Code 128). Click the button Insert Barcode. Finished!
Scanning Barcodes Into Excel Open Excel, and type “Inventory” or “Items” in the first cell and press Enter. You will need this as a label for the items later when it comes to counting your inventory. The cursor now appears on the first empty cell below “Inventory.”
If your products already have barcodes on them, then all you really need is a barcode scanner and some software. If not, you can first make your own barcodes. You can make up your own letter/number codes (e.g. ABC1234) for each of your products.
Create well-designed location names and clearly label all locations where items may be stored. Use well organized, consistent, and unique descriptions of your items, starting with nouns. Keep item identifiers (part numbers, SKU's, etc.)
