Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
According to Federal law, gun cases MUST be locked and the ONLY person having the key or combination is the owner. The TSA is not allowed to open the gun case themselves and using a TSA-master-keyed lock (such as is sold for luggage) is against Federal law.
According to regulations, your gun case can be integrated with a lock, or you can use a case with a separate lock. Do not use TSA approved locks for your gun case. TSA approved locks compromise the security of your firearm. Remember, the law states that you ALONE maintain possession of the keys to your gun case.
All Pelican Gun Cases are TSA approved for transporting firearms on commercial airlines.
TL;DR: You need a more hard-sided case than the Glock case, and you need to lock it properly — not necessarily with a lock the TSA can open — you'll just need to go with them to open it. ... You also are the only one to have keys to the NON TSA locks. They never leave your possession.
Under TSA guidelines, a person may carry a legal firearm that is encased in a locked container, unloaded, and declared to TSA, to be transported in a checked bag. ... Bringing a concealed weapon that is not a firearm into the airport is a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and fines.
The TSA will collect your prohibited item and dispose of it according to Government Services Administration rules. Normally, this means your item will be thrown away, but some airports donate useful items to community organizations, such as schools.
The first security check that your checked bags go through depends on the airport. In the United States, most major airports have a computer tomography (CT) scanner. A CT scanner is a hollow tube that surrounds your bag. ... Instead, only bags that the computer flags as “suspicious” are checked.
You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted.
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. ... Firearm parts, including magazines, clips, bolts and firing pins, are prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.
Within the U.S., you can only travel with firearms and ammunition, including pellet and BB guns, in your checked bags if you're over 18 years old. You must check them with an agent at check-in and declare that you're traveling with firearms and ammunition. Firearms must be: Unloaded.
