How do I check the status of my guard card?
Should you need to check the status of your guard card, you must contact the BASIS at: (916) 322-4000 or (800) 952-5210. If you would like to have proof of your training, please contact your training facility as they should be able to print/send your records for you.
How long does it take for your guard card to come in the mail?
BASIS usually processes new applications within 15-20 days, but it can be as few as 3-5 days. While you wait for your actual guard card to arrive in the mail, your name will show up on the BASIS website, so employers can verify your security guard registration.
How long does it take to receive your guard card?
How long will it take to get my guard card from the state? If you apply on-line at the BASIS website, your guard card may be approved more quickly. Some of our students have received their guard card approval within two weeks. Others have taken four months.
How much is it to get a guard card?
The cost of applying for guard card courses varies on the method of application. If you choose to apply on-line, the fee for security guard application is $50, while the on-line convenience fee is $1. Fingerprints must be submitted using Live Scan, and it costs $32 for the Department of Justice, while the FBI charges $19.
What disqualifies you from being a security guard?
Crimes of violence and felonies automatically disqualify you from applying to be a security guard in the State of California. For all others, the State considers the circumstances of your conviction and evidence of rehabilitation. Just fill out the BASIS application completely and truthfully.
How do I check my guard card on-line?
Go to www.bsis.ca.gov to verify you have been issued a guard card. You will receive a paper copy in the mail within 10 to 15 days after being approved.
