How do I check my certificate of revocation status?
To check the revocation status of an SSL Certificate, the client connects to the URLs and downloads the CA's URLs. Then, the client searches through the CRL for the serial number of the certificate to make sure that it hasn't been revoked.
Where is certificate revocation list stored?
CRL is a list provided by the certificate issuer. The list contains the serial numbers and the reason for revocation of the revoked certificates and is signed by the issuer (or some other directly or indirectly trusted CA). The original CRL file is created and stored at the issuer.
Where do I find certificate revocation list?
There are a couple of ways you can check a certificate authority's CRL. One of which is through using Google Chrome and checking the certificate details. To do this, open the Chrome DevTools, navigate to the security tab and click on View certificate.
How do certificate revocation lists work?
A Certificate Revocation List (CRL) is a list of digital certificates that have been revoked by the issuing Certificate Authority (CA) before their scheduled expiration date and should no longer be trusted. The CRL file is signed by the Certificate Authority to prevent tampering.
What happens when a certificate is revoked?
Certificate revocation is a process of invalidating an issued SSL certificate. Ideally, browsers and other clients should be able to detect that the certificate is revoked in timely manner, show the security warning, that certificate is no longer trusted, and prevent user from further consuming such a website.
Why is my certificate revoked?
Digital certificates are revoked for many reasons. If a CA discovers that it has improperly issued a certificate, for example, it may revoke the original certificate and reissue a new one. The most common reason for revocation occurs when a certificate's private key has been compromised.
How do I fix a revoked certificate?
Open Internet Explorer. In the Tools' menu select Internet Options. Pick the Advanced tab and then scroll down to the Security section as pictured below. Then turn off or uncheck Check for server certificate revocation, highlighted below. Click OK at the bottom of the window.
