To combine the two documents, follow the steps: Insert → Objects → text from file. If we have more than two documents to merge, we can repeat the steps. The merged documents will have the same format. Footnote will automatically renumber.
You're able to reference footnotes multiple times in Microsoft Word by using cross-references. However, cross-references have a minor limitation if you insert another footnote above the original one, the footnote number will update, automatically, immediately, but the cross-reference number will not.
On the Reference tab, in the Footnotes group, click the Dialog Launcher. In the Custom Mark field type the preferred number or symbol. Click the Insert button. Enter the footnote text. In the body of the document click insertion point where duplicate footnote reference is to appear.
When citing the same source in multiple footnotes one after the other, cite the source in full the first time, and then use the abbreviated form for all subsequent citations until another source is cited (p. 759-760).
When doing footnotes, do you put a footnote after every sentence, even if two or more consecutive sentences are from the same source and same page? Footnotes should be placed where you need them, not according to a rule. Whenever you can imagine the reader asking Says who? You should add a note.
Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1,2,3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1.
Insert your first (primary) footnote as normal. Position the insertion point in the document where you want the secondary reference to the footnote. Choose Insert | Reference | Cross-reference. Using the Reference Type drop-down list, choose Footnote. Select the footnote you want used for this reference. Click Insert.
