But a Stanford theoretical physicist has just come up with a new equation that suggests the key to finally connecting the two could be found in bizarre spacetime tunnels called wormholes. The equation is deceptively simple: ER = EPR.
Einstein's theory of general relativity mathematically predicts the existence of wormholes, but none have been discovered to date. A negative mass wormhole might be spotted by the way its gravity affects light that passes by.
Travel through wormholes is possible, but slow. Summary: A physicist has shown that wormholes can exist: tunnels in curved space-time, connecting two distant places, through which travel is possible.
Einstein's theory of general relativity mathematically predicts the existence of wormholes, but none have been discovered to date. A negative mass wormhole might be spotted by the way its gravity affects light that passes by.
”Wormholes if you don't have something threading through them to hold them open the walls will basically collapse so fast that nothing can go through them,” Thorne said. Holding wormholes open would require the insertion of something that anti-gravitates namely, negative energy.
Wormholes are theoretical 'tunnels' between two points of space caused by the extreme warping of spacetime. Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity describes how spacetime warps around massive objects such as black holes. For a good analogy in two dimensions, think of a dimple on a sheet of fabric.

Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity describes how spacetime warps around massive objects such as black holes. ... Interstellar's wormhole, with the tiny, ring-shaped Endurance spacecraft in front.

There's a small technical difficulty, though: Wormholes, which are bends in space-time so extreme that a shortcut tunnel forms, are catastrophically unstable. As in, as soon as you send a single photon down the hole, it collapses faster than the speed of light.
Earlier this year, physicists proposed an answer in the form of wormholes, or gravitational tunnels. The group showed that by creating two entangled black holes, then pulling them apart, they formed a wormhole essentially a shortcut through the universe connecting the distant black holes.
