But I have also heard of many aspects of how people distinguish a nickname in the manuscript. Italicize it — some people say.
Single quotation marks are used to mark a quote within a quote or a direct quote in a news story headline. Periods always go inside all quotation marks. A question mark is only placed inside of single quotation marks if the quote within a quote is a question.
A quick rule: Names (of people, places, and things) need to be capitalized, but titles (of things) need both capitalization and either quotation marks or italics. Items in the following categories need neither italics nor quotation marks (unless italics or quotation marks are an intrinsic part of the title).
A resume is not a legal document, so it is acceptable to use your preferred name. Some individuals prefer to list their first initial followed by their preferred name (e.g., T. Michelle Richards) or identify their preferred name in quotes (e.g., Taylor Michelle Richards).
A preferred name is a name a person has specified they wish to be called. It is often used if the preferred name is different from their legal name. This could be, for example, if a person wishes to be called Bob, John or Sue instead of Robert, Jonathan or Susan respectively.
