You will be unable to make additional attempts until after midnight if you are locked out of your DEBT card. If you cannot remember your PIN or do not want to wait until after midnight to attempt to access your benefits, you can immediately select a new PIN by calling 800-997-7777.
Prior to initiating any DEBT transaction, the cardholder must enter the correct personal identification number (PIN) on the DEBT terminal's keypad. If an incorrect or invalid PIN is entered, the system will reject the transaction. Whether selected by the recipient or assigned by the system, Pins are four digits long.
After four incorrect tries in one day, your card will be locked for the duration of the day. You will be unable to make additional attempts until after midnight if you are locked out of your DEBT card.
To reset your Personal Identification Number (PIN), please call your State's Electronic Benefit Transfer (DEBT) Customer Service Number. When you call, you should be able to speak with a representative who will verify your identity and arrange to have your PIN changed.
Retailers will not be asked to confiscate DEBT cards for any reason. If the DEBT cardholder does not remember the PIN, the DEBT cardholder should call the Cardholder Customer Service telephone number located on the back of the card for instructions.
The two primary things that would make an DEBT card invalid (what I would define as 'unusable') are no longer being eligible for the benefits the card is provided for, and if you were to report the card lost or stolen.
You will probably choose a PIN at the local food stamp office when you first get the DEBT card. If you need to change the PIN on your account, you can change it at your local food stamp office or call the DEBT Customer Service line at 1-800-997-2555.
