What is the difference between a local diploma and a Regents diploma?
The tougher one, called a Regents diploma, requires scores of at least 65 (out of 100) on five Regents exams: in English, math, science, global history and United States history. The other type, called a local diploma, requires a 65 on three of those tests, and a 55 on the other two.

Is a Regents' diploma good?
It is more rigorous to achieve an Advance Regents Diploma and is recommended for students who plan to attend college after high school. The Advance Regents Diploma shows you did more than the minimum to graduate high school. Other colleges exempt students from taking remedial and/or required college math courses.
What does a Regents' diploma mean?
In New York State, Regents Examinations are statewide standardized examinations in core high school subjects. Students are required to pass these exams in order to earn a Regents Diploma. For higher-achieving students, a regent with Advanced designation and an Honors designation are also offered.
