How do you find the log 5 on a log table?

Seriously, if you are looking up log 5, or log 50, or log 500 it will all be the same spot on the table. Just look down the first column and find 50. The first entry to the right of 50 (under the 0 column) should be 6990. This number is called the mantissa of the logarithm.

What is the log table?

Historically, a logarithm table is a list of mantissas (the decimal parts) of the exponents that make base 10 numbers. People who use these tables have to remember some rules the tables don't work for negative numbers, for example, because the logs of negative numbers are two-dimensional, complex numbers.

How do you find the log?

Decide on the number you want to find the logarithm of. Decide on your base — in this case, 2. Find the logarithm with base 10 of number 100. Find the logarithm with base 10 of number 2. Divide these values by one another: lg(100)/lg(2) = 2 / 0.30103 = 6.644.
