Volunteers are the backbone of the Houston Humane Society's mission of helping homeless pets. Volunteers work to bring comfort and care to the abused, neglected and abandoned animals in our care. Become part of our Volunteer team at the Houston Humane Society! We are always recruiting new volunteers!
We currently accept volunteers aged 12 and older. If you are 12, 13, 14, or 15, you need to find an adult sponsor volunteer and the two of you will volunteer at all times together as a team.
Volunteer projects vary based on need and may include sorting food, repacking dry food into family-sized bags and stocking the Portwall Pantry. Register For A Volunteer Shift! Children as young as age six are welcome for our kid-friendly projects.
Minors must be at least 6 years old to volunteer in the Portwall Warehouse. Minors must be 16 years old to volunteer in the Keegan Kitchen.
All applicants 18 years of age and older must complete a background screening. Submit the Payment and Complete Application. Complete the Background Screening (18+ only) Attend Orientation. Choose Your Area of Care and Attend Training. Start Volunteering.
Help departments across the Zoo with special projects – volunteers are called on to help with a variety of projects, including creating enrichment for our animals, putting new substrate into animal habitats, conducting animal behavior and/or visibility studies, and so much more!
