Place all page numbers in the top right corner in the header. Though the APA Style rules ask for page numbering to start on the title page, a common academic convention is to include the title page in the total page count but start the numbering on page two.
APA in-text citation style uses the author's last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For sources such as websites and e-books that have no page numbers, use a paragraph number.

A running head/page header includes two pieces: 1) the title of the paper and 2) page numbers. Insert page numbers justified to the right-hand side of the APA format paper (do not put p. or pg. in front of the page numbers).
On the Header & Footer Tools Design tab, in the Options group, select the check box for Different First Page. Insert page numbers in the top right corner of your paper and in the top left corner, type Running head: TITLE.
Go to the menu, at the top of the page, under Header and Footer Tools, click the box that says Different first page. Your cursor should now be at the top of page 1 in the header box. Set the cursor just to the left of the number 1 and type Running head: and then your abbreviated title in all caps.

To create a page header/running head, insert page numbers flush right. Then type "TITLE OF YOUR PAPER" in the header flush left using all capital letters. The running head is a shortened version of your paper's title and cannot exceed 50 characters including spacing and punctuation.
Some journals or style guides require papers to have a running head. A running head is a short version of the paper title that is printed as a heading at the top of each page. ... In APA style, the running head is placed in the upper left. The publisher often requests running heads for practical reasons.
