Easy Cancellation

How can I save a tick for testing?
Save the tick in a plastic bag that you can seal or a pill bottle. Record the location and date of the bite.
Store the container for up to 10 days in the: refrigerator, for live ticks. Freezer, for dead ticks.
Where do I send a tick to be tested?
Typically, ticks are submitted for testing by placing them in a sealed zip-lock bag and sending via overnight or priority carrier or UPS. Most of the companies ask that you send the tick in along with your name, address, phone number (with area code), and payment.
How do you send a tick for a test?
Place your tick in a plastic bag and mail it to our lab. We'll identify it and determine the correct tests to apply. You may also hand deliver your tick to the laboratory. We suggest using UPS or FedEx for fastest service.

Should you get a tick tested?
If you develop a rash or fever within several weeks of removing a tick, see your doctor. If you have been infected, you will probably develop symptoms before results of the tick test are available. If you do become ill, you should not wait for tick testing results before beginning appropriate treatment.
How accurate is tick testing?
How accurate is your tick testing process? Lab technicians utilize primers and probes specific to the pathogens of interest. If these special DNA signatures are found, we can confirm that the tick carries that particular pathogen. Using our modern methods, our test results are over 99.9% accurate.
How long should you save a tick?
It takes up to 36 hours for the bacterium to be transferred after the tick bite. Prompt removal of the tick will reduce the chance of infection. Tumble dry clothes on high heat for at least 10 minutes to kill ticks.
