Face Chart

What is Face Chart?

A face chart is a blank canvas that allows you to plan and visualize different makeup looks. It is often used by makeup artists to practice and showcase their creativity before applying makeup on a client's face. A face chart typically features an outline of a face and spaces where you can add various makeup products such as foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, and blush.

What are the types of Face Chart?

There are different types of face charts available to cater to different makeup preferences and purposes. Some common types include:

Blank face charts: These charts are completely empty and provide a blank canvas for you to create your own makeup looks.
Preprinted face charts: These charts have pre-drawn facial features, such as eyes, lips, and eyebrows, which can help you focus on specific areas while practicing different makeup techniques.
Digital face charts: With the advancement of technology, digital face charts have become popular. These charts can be created and edited online using software or apps, allowing you to easily experiment with different makeup looks virtually.

Questions & answers

For the best results, use watercolor or resume paper. Standard printer paper may be too shiny and slick to allow the color to set properly. Highly pigmented eye shadow or powder product work best for depositing color and allowing blendability. Use your makeup brushes or art brushes to deposit color.
When working with makeup products on paper, you will have to use small circular motions to rub the products “into” the page so they stay better on the paper. Some like to prime the paper, it may help make blending easier! Use face powder all over the page if you are going to be working with powder products.
A face chart describes a piece of paper featuring the black outline of a blank, bony face. A completed face chart has been brushed, painted, and trimmed with powder and pigment to create a makeup artist's rough draft.
You can use face charts in place of an actual face, using real makeup to execute your idea on paper. Imagine having a folder full of your ideas, all completed with real makeup, but using much less makeup than if you'd practiced on your face.
What Is a Face Chart? The face chart has been used by makeup artists for decades, since at least the '80s. Essentially, it's a piece of paper that has a printed outline drawing of a face on it. Makeup artists can then use this outline to map out where they want to place different makeup products.
Choose a light color and go around the contour of the face chart with circular motions. After that, continue with a darker powder in order to color the rest of the face. Then, choose a brown and start contouring the nose and the cheeks. Important: do not color the T-zone of the face chart.
