I'm sure the service is extremely useful to the computer literates, but I'm not one of them. Although it's not rocket science, I'm old fashioned and was hoping to talk to someone and walk me through it over the phone. Not a bad experience though...

Change the footnote font size, and formatting To change the font, size and formatting of footnotes: Click the HOME tab, and then in the Styles group, click the arrow for more options. Or, press ALT+CTRL+SHIFT’S. At the bottom of the Styles pane, click the Manage Styles button.
Select the number or symbol you added to the footnote text at the bottom of the slide. Click the Font tab, and under Effects, select Superscript. Superscript makes the number or symbol smaller and slightly above the normal line of text.
Make sure the References tab is selected on the ribbon. Click the small downward-pointing arrow in the lower-right corner of the Footnotes group. Make sure the Footnotes radio button is selected. Change the Start At value to reflect where you want Word to start numbering.
