For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Chadwick used S for sacrifice and chose K for strikeout. He did so because K is the prominent letter of the word “strike,” which was used more frequently than strikeout. Some scorers use a forward K for a swinging strikeout, a backward K for a batter caught looking.
The “Olympic Rings” or platinum sombrero applies to a player striking out five times in a game. A horn refers to a player striking out six times in a game; the term was coined by pitcher Mike Flanagan after teammate Sam Horn of the Baltimore Orioles accomplished the feat in an extra-inning game in 1991.
There have been two other five-strikeout games this season, by Tim Beckham of the Baltimore Orioles and Chad Wallach of the Miami Marlins. There were five in all of 2017, eight in 2016 and three in 2015. The most five-whiff games in a career is just four, by Sammy Sosa from 1990 to 2003.
Necktie is best remembered for the unique feat of striking out 27 batters in a nine-inning game, which he accomplished in the Class-D Appalachian League on May 13, 1952. He is the only pitcher ever to do so in a nine-inning, professional-league game.
There's no recorded evidence of a five-strikeout inning ever happening in the Majors, but the Rivers, a Yankees affiliate, did do it once before in 2011.
The History of the Strikeout Another reason the letter “K” is used is that it is made with 3 strokes of the pencil, symbolizing the 3 strikes for the strikeout. Chadwick also used a backward K when a batter strikes out looking or called out on the third strike because it isn't as common as striking out swinging.

A backwards K means a strikeout looking. The letter K is used to represent a strikeout. If the batter struck out on a called third strike, as opposed to swinging at the third strike, the scorer will traditionally write the K backwards.
