How to fill out hydrate lab

Illustration

How to fill out a hydrate lab:

01
Start by gathering all the necessary materials for the lab, including the hydrate sample, a balance, a Bunsen burner, a crucible, tongs, and a desiccator.
02
Begin by measuring the mass of an empty crucible and recording it.
03
Carefully add a small amount of the hydrate sample to the crucible using a spatula. Be sure to record the mass of the crucible with the hydrate sample.
04
Place the crucible on a clay triangle and heat it gently with a Bunsen burner. Heat the crucible for a few minutes, making sure to not overheat it.
05
Allow the crucible to cool and then measure its mass again. The mass should now be less than the previous measurement, indicating that some of the water has been evaporated from the hydrate.
06
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until there is no significant change in the mass of the crucible. This indicates that all the water has been evaporated from the hydrate.
07
Calculate the mass of the water that was evaporated by subtracting the final mass of the crucible from the initial mass of the crucible with the hydrate sample.
08
Calculate the percent water in the hydrate by dividing the mass of water by the initial mass of the hydrate sample, and then multiplying by 100.
09
Repeat the experiment multiple times to ensure accuracy and obtain an average value for the percent water in the hydrate.
10
Clean up the lab equipment and dispose of any waste materials properly.
