The DOT serial number is located on the inside sidewall near the rim. The letters “DOT” are followed by eight to thirteen letters and/or numbers that identify where the tire was manufactured, tire size, and the manufacturer's code, along with the week and year the tire was manufactured.
Starting with the year 2000, four numbers are used for the Date of Manufacture. The first two numbers identify the week and the last two numbers identify the year of manufacture. In the example below (DOT AF WD9E 0517) 05 indicates the tire was manufactured in the 5th week of the year.
A 3-digit DOT Date Code was used on tires manufactured before the year 2000. The first two digits still represent the week of manufacture, but the last digit refers to the previous year of the decade. For instance, '238' would mean the tire was made in the 23rd week of the 8th year of a decade (likely 1998).

How do you read a tyre date code? The first two numbers of the 4-digit DOT date code (which, again, appears at the very end of the string of letters and numbers that start with DOT) indicate the week that the tyre was manufactured. The last two numbers of the date code tell you the year of manufacture.
For example, it could simply say 35x12. 5 R17, or it may show as P265 75 R15. If it is the first listing, then here is the breakdown. That first number is your tire size at 35", and then the second number tells you the tire width at 12.5". That third reading is the tire type as radial and diameter as 17".
The TIN groups together important information about your tire's manufacturing. Group One: 2-3 characters representing the factory code for where the tire was made. Group Two: a 2-character code that tells you the tire size. Group Three: up to 4 characters that show the tire type and manufacturer's code.
